Aaron Smyth was one of the finalists appearing in
the final of Australia's Got Talent 2008.
He was one of only four people selected by the show's panel of judges to
advance to the finals, where he competed with four more performers
chosen by the public for the $250,000 grand prize.
"I was really nervous when I got out there on stage but then I was so
excited and relieved when they put me through to the next round," said
Smyth.
"At first I was daunted to audition for the show, but I'm glad I did
because it's given me lots of exposure and performance opportunities."
The talented 16-year-old recently was accepted into the prestigious
American Ballet Theatre's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School and will
start his year of professional training in September.
"Afterwards, I will hopefully be accepted into the actual ballet
company," he said.
Aaron was born and raised on the Gold Coast and attended All Saints
Anglican School.
As a six-year-old he practiced gymnastics but after attending his
sister's dance class he was hooked.
Smyth trained in ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary dance at the Ransley
Ballet School and with Dianne Talbot.
His talents have been recognised from a young age, with him winning many
awards at eisteddfods and starring in productions such as Footloose and
West Side Story.
In 2007 he won the $6000 first prize in the Society of Art Dance's major
ballet competition. He used the money to fund his audition for the ABT.
